Broadway's best

On July 31st 2014, Isabelle Georges and Frederik Steenbrink will be joined by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège conducted by Fayçal Karoui and a jazz quartet featuring Gilles Barikosky (saxophone), Guillaume Naud (piano), Jérôme Sarfati (double bass) and David Grebil (drums) for a unique concert at Amsterdam’s infamous Concertgebouw.

With musical arrangements by Cyrille Lehn, the program unites with the spectacular sound of the Broadway orchestras and the golden era of MGM, mixing triple time, swing and even Jazz ballads with the largeness and virtuosity of a philharmonic orchestra.

In true Judy Garland television-show fashion, Isabelle Georges and Frederik Steenbrink pay tribute to the American Songbook and its great composers including George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Cole Porter... all of which were also inclined to mix musical genres from time to time.

The solos, duos, chorus and ensemble pieces are punctuated by narrations and short scenes depicting the origin of the songs and of course, two choreographed pieces in pure American musical theatre tradition, including a surprising tribute to Gregory Hines.

The same concert, embellished with some the American Songbooks finest Christmas songs, will also be performed on the 19th and 20th of December 2014 at the Philharmonie de Liège and re-baptised “Christmas On Broadway”
