“Never before had I seen a face in which the passion for gambling erupted so bestially, in its unabashed nakedness. I was fascinated by this face, which suddenly became dull and lifeless, as the ball settled on a number,” recounts Mrs. C. “This man had just lost everything. He rushed out of the casino. Instinctively, I followed him. Then began 24 hours that would change my destiny.”
The very first musical adaptation of one of the masterpieces by writer Stefan Zweig, Twenty-Four Hours in the Life of a Woman.
Nearly a century after its publication, Twenty-Four Hours in the Life of a Woman continues to captivate readers. The novella offers exceptional material for the original score by Sergei Dreznin as well as the libretto written by Christine Khandjian and Stéphane Ly-Cuong, with a vast palette of colors and emotions that match its heroine.
To perform this original score, an unprecedented quintet composed of singers Isabelle Georges and Frederik Steenbrink, along with the Trio Zadig, which has won eleven international awards.
The arrangements, by Cyrille Lehn, provide the Trio and the singers with a setting true to this fleeting and unforgettable passion, this raw emotion hidden beneath masks, this timeless story of love and surrender, despite social conventions.
