An outstanding evening of music with Tony Award-nominated Broadway star Melissa Errico with special guest Isabelle Georges and the James Pearson Band. Other highlights of the show, come in the form of Errico’s guest artist, French superstar and fellow Broadway performer, Isabelle Georges. The pair perfectly complement each other thanks to Georges having a superb range and at times operatic voice, which seamlessly harmonizes with Errico’s voice.  They inject a Parisian flavor with a program including Jumelles, and You Must Believe in Spring (both by lyricist Michel Legrand and composer Jacques Demy).

Isabelle joins Melissa on stage for a few duets. She also treats the audience to a solo performance that combines the best of musical theatre and comedy and demonstrates her impressive vocal range. The final song of the show, ‘You and Me’, also performed by Melissa and Isabelle together, features them tap dancing.

Legrand had such a big influence on Errico’s career – she was Tony-nominated for her lead role in Amour – that she duetted the title song with her guest, the best-known cabaret singer in Paris and, by Georges, wasn’t she terrific. As her solo, Georges did a fabulous version of a saucy Cole Porter number, Si Vous Aimez Les Poitrines (from the 1933 musical Nymph Errant) that her great predecessor Liliane Montevecchi used to do rather suggestively. Georges is a startlingly good, very intelligent performer and I hope we see her over here again. Errico and Georges had teamed up earlier for another Legrand number (about twins) Chanson Des Jumelles and they were together again for the You and Me finale (a Henry Mancini/Leslie Bricusse number) and decorated that with a bit of tap dancing.

James Pearson’s quartet provide fine back-up, and Errico’s surprise guest, Parisian theatre and cabaret star Isabelle Georges who comes bowling on like a French Carol Burnett before unleashing a sensational, rangy voice and fabulous comedy chops, is likely to have picked up a whole legion of British fans after this performance. In fact, the women – who clearly adore each other – work so well together it would be amazing to see them co-star in a full-length show.

The show features some deeply moving moments but can effortlessly transition to light-hearted and fun, especially when a special guest, Isabelle George, takes the stage alongside Melissa. Isabelle is full of joy and fill’s the audience with joy as show showcases her vocals and wins over new fans with her delight in performing and incredible talent. The harmonious blend of Isabelle’s powerful voice with Melissa’s is fantastic and results in duets that range from poignant to playful, accompanied by tap dancing that adds a layer of joy.

What is it about England? So dear to my heart

A sense of humour surely that lightens the part
